OpenAI announced a Decisions API at DevDay 2026 that returns one of your predefined answers; it is in limited preview. This independent Decisions API follows the same idea on the official OpenAI API now, with self-serve keys, image input and per-option probabilities.

What is Decisions API?
Decisions API is a playground and API that answers closed questions about text. You define the options; it returns the selected option and a probability for every option instead of free-form prose.
Is this the OpenAI Decisions API?
No. Decisions API is an independent service. It is built on the official OpenAI API and follows the same idea as the OpenAI Decisions API announced at DevDay 2026: a fixed set of answers and a probability for each. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI.
Can the Decisions API read images?
Yes. Attach up to 4 images (https URLs or base64 data URLs) as context, alone or together with text. Receipts, screenshots, product photos and documents all work.
How are the probabilities calculated?
Each option is shown to the model as a single letter. We read the probability the model assigns to every letter for its one-token answer and normalise across your options.
How is usage billed?
Playground runs use one welcome credit first. API calls use purchased input tokens first. Each question is one model call, so input tokens grow with the number of questions. Output tokens are free.
